Swedish Midsummer in Hyde Park

Monday, June 28th, 2010

This Saturday we celebrated Swedish Midsummer in Hyde Park with the JCC, and it was the freakin’ best Midsummer I’ve ever celebrated!!! More than 2,000 joined, most of them Swedes. As you can see I was dressed in a traditional Swedish folk costume, very neat. The five of us from the Chamber led the Midsummer dancing around the Midsummer Pole. I think we were more than 400 dancing at the same time at its peak. And standing in the middle of the dance circle, “DJ-ing”, and holding the mic’, I felt like a rock star with the cheer from the crowd. It was simply amazing!!! The celebration in the park started at 12 noon and lasted until late evening, when the party continued at the nightclub Movida.

Waiting Rooms, Wimbledon, Board Meeting and Midsummer

Monday, June 21st, 2010

So what’s happening this week? I can start with what have happened. Today I spent approx 4½ hours in the waiting room at St. Mary’s Hospital. 2½ hours waiting to see a doctor, and 2 hours waiting outside the pharmacy to get my inhaler. Tomorrow I will go for a test run. Still kind of tired, but hopefully I will be ok tomorrow morning.

The day got a lot better when Federer won in the first round of Wimbledon, after being down by two sets. And when I came home I attended my first YEoS board meeting in a while. It was fun. I presented some ideas and projects I have, and learned more about the exciting plans ahead. The new board is doing a really good job!

Back to what’s happening. As all Swedes know, Friday is the day for Midsummer Celebrations, not here though. This Saturday we, the Swedish Chamber of Commerce, will organise a Midsummer Celebration in Hyde Park during the day. It will be super fun. Last year more than thousand people showed. The forecast for Saturday tells sunny and 24 degrees, so I think we can expect even more this year. Later in the night we will continue the celebration with a Midsummer Party at Movida. Free entrance and two drinks to all guests before 11 PM. If you’re in London, you have to come. If only for the joy of seeing me wearing a traditional Swedish costume…

Have I Gained 40 Kilos?

Sunday, June 20th, 2010

Since I arrived to London, 1.5 month ago, I have been jogging more or less once a week. Not with the very best results, but I thought it was due to the lack of sleep, and all the socialising (ref: Still Alive). But the last three times my performance has really dropped significantly, this despite the fact that I have been sleeping a lot the last week, and I haven’t had a single beer. This Wednesday, I only managed to run 4 km, compared to normal 8 to 10 km, and got really exhausted. Yesterday, the same distance, but in a far slower pace, with heavy breathing, and a taste of blood in my mouth. Finally today, I had to give up after only 2.9 km, by the time I had max pulse, milk acid in my legs, and very heavy breathing. Now you might wonder, if I have gained 40 kilos the last month? No, not according to the mirror at least, but I have no scale so I can’t really be sure. A more likely explanation would be that my pollen allergy in combination with the London air and physical activity gives me asthma attacks. Not severe, but enough to really sabotage my training. I will make sure to get an appointment for this ASAP. Don’t worry mum, I’ll be fine.

“My” First Magazine

One of my responsibilities at the Chamber is to be the editor of our members magazine LINK. And last week we sent the final version to print. I must say it looks gooood! Click here to download. Now I can add “Editor” to my CV.

Fantastic Colleagues!

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

While I am here in the UK, my colleagues back in Sweden are doing a very good job. YEoS Venture Lab is since a few weeks back fully rented, well done Christoffer and Marcus! Joakim is going on strong with Campusbokhandeln. We are currently preparing for taking a big leap this autumn, introducing a webshop, and opening a few more stores among other things. Keep up the good work Joakim, Christoffer, Marcus, and all other co-workers back home!
