Swedish Midsummer in Hyde Park

Monday, June 28th, 2010

This Saturday we celebrated Swedish Midsummer in Hyde Park with the JCC, and it was the freakin’ best Midsummer I’ve ever celebrated!!! More than 2,000 joined, most of them Swedes. As you can see I was dressed in a traditional Swedish folk costume, very neat. The five of us from the Chamber led the Midsummer dancing around the Midsummer Pole. I think we were more than 400 dancing at the same time at its peak. And standing in the middle of the dance circle, “DJ-ing”, and holding the mic’, I felt like a rock star with the cheer from the crowd. It was simply amazing!!! The celebration in the park started at 12 noon and lasted until late evening, when the party continued at the nightclub Movida.

Waiting Rooms, Wimbledon, Board Meeting and Midsummer

Monday, June 21st, 2010

So what’s happening this week? I can start with what have happened. Today I spent approx 4½ hours in the waiting room at St. Mary’s Hospital. 2½ hours waiting to see a doctor, and 2 hours waiting outside the pharmacy to get my inhaler. Tomorrow I will go for a test run. Still kind of tired, but hopefully I will be ok tomorrow morning.

The day got a lot better when Federer won in the first round of Wimbledon, after being down by two sets. And when I came home I attended my first YEoS board meeting in a while. It was fun. I presented some ideas and projects I have, and learned more about the exciting plans ahead. The new board is doing a really good job!

Back to what’s happening. As all Swedes know, Friday is the day for Midsummer Celebrations, not here though. This Saturday we, the Swedish Chamber of Commerce, will organise a Midsummer Celebration in Hyde Park during the day. It will be super fun. Last year more than thousand people showed. The forecast for Saturday tells sunny and 24 degrees, so I think we can expect even more this year. Later in the night we will continue the celebration with a Midsummer Party at Movida. Free entrance and two drinks to all guests before 11 PM. If you’re in London, you have to come. If only for the joy of seeing me wearing a traditional Swedish costume…
